Permanently fixed ladders give access to roofs, plant rooms, tanks and silos, and they are usually the least maintained asset on a site. Corroded stiles, loose wall brackets and missing rungs often go unnoticed until someone needs to climb.

We inspect each ladder against BS 4211, load test rungs and fixings where the installation calls for it, and fit a tag showing the result and next due date.

FAQs

Common questions

How often should a fixed ladder be inspected?

Most sites inspect fixed ladders every 12 months, with shorter intervals where ladders are exposed to weather, chemicals or heavy use.

Do you load test every ladder?

No. We load test rungs and fixings where the installation, age or condition calls for it, and record the reason in the report.

What if the ladder predates BS 4211?

We report the actual non-conformances and practical risk, and set out retrofit options with indicative costs rather than condemning the ladder.
